The Greatest Show on Dirt
Courtney O'Hehir is a hairdresser during the day.
But on weekends she swaps the scissors for a pink race suit and helmet to compete in wingless sprint cars.
Wingless sprint cars race on dirt at circuits including Sydney Speedway in Granville.
Like their winged cousins, wingless sprint cars have a high power to weight ratio and can reach speeds of 180 kilometres an hour.
Forty enthusisasts from Dial Before You Dig NSW/ACT member companies turned out to support Courtney at Sydney Speedway.
The rainy autumn in Sydney had caused the event to be postponed three times previously. But last Saturday night the rain held off and the race was on.
The Dial Before You Dig support crew were decked out in red polo shirts that attracted the attention of the track announcer.
Courtney won through to the final race, finishing 17th overall in a field of 25.
